I have a 3'6" x 8' board. I want to run a single track line along the back of the board and at both ends of the track I want to loop it back to it self so I can use the same single track line. I do not want to make an oval. can this be done? The train willbe running down the track in one direction and then loop back going in the opposite direction on the same track. What would I need to do this?
    Thanks

What scale? That won't work in HO, not enough length and the width is a little tight.

    Carl,
The term to what you are referring to - a loop going back on itself - is called a reversing loop. The problem is not physical but electrical. If you are going dcc, the solution is easier as there are auto-reversing modules that will swap the electrical current for you.

In dc, you can also handle a reversing loop but with a bit more work - check out the elecrical books for trains.

Again, how well it will work depends on what scale you are in.

That sounds like dual reversing loops. Could become a wiring/block-throwing headache to run trains... UNLESS you are running DCC... It would be interesting, if you only plan to run short trains. What is going to go in the area in betwen the loops? A large yard? industrial areas?

I am interested in more track plans for a hollow-care door, as my local club is looking at making an N scale layout! WHOHOO!!!

Well after looking at Kato tracks and thier Terminal Unijoiners, I think you can do a double reversing loop but not auto if you don't use DCC. My trains are not so I guess I will have to make a dog bone ( more tracks same affect).
One loop will have indust., the other downtown. each loop will rest upon 3'6" board with a 3' board between them.
