From what I understand having a programing track is a good idea anyway for "speed matching", breaking in engines, and other reasons. Maybe you can mount an oval of track on a sheet of 2" foam that can easily be stored away.
Steve: You just need a programming track that is 24-30" inches long. It's much easier to program a loco on straight track. You don't run the loco on the programming track, you just program the loco's address (number) into the decoder. A programming is necessary on a DCC layout and isn't optional. Here's the sort of thing you'd get in a Dummies book, I think. The following can't be found anywhere on Digitrax's site or documentation: 1) Functions send current to one of the wires sticking out of your loco's decoder. 2) The functions don't do squat unless the wire is hooked up to something. ^_^ Bryan Charlottesville, VA
