Hello TB members. My question today is. What is the difference between the tonnage of replacement wheel and truck sets. Is it wheel height, more springs on the truck? I recently came across some rolling stock with Rapido couplers and need to redo with knuckle coupler wheel sets. I know MTL is what most people like. But what about the Atlas wheel sets with Accumate couplers as most of my rolling stock that I have are Atlas cars with Accumates, and so far no problems with those. I assume that all couplers are the same height on different tonnage sets. Yes or No? Also, if I need to adjust the height on a magnetic trip pin, what is the best way to adjust. Bend it up or pull it out and shorten it a little. Thanks
How To forum link on wheel diameters and much more. Check posts #13 and #15 for prototype info. I, too, use MT for the most part. If I have to shim Atlas Accumate or IM trucks, I just use a MT shim. I use a coupler height gauge: one end has a coupler and the other end has a car body height gauge.
