New York Central fans--I spotted this train last week between Albany and Syracuse. Can any of you tell me when the New York Central adopted this new color scheme for their crack passenger trains? Thanks.
Day early for April Fools aren't you? I prefer the Daylight 4449 in Daylight colors although the owners can do whatever they wish.
I can't tell you a thing about it except that it looks like a Niagara to me. It certainly is a beauty.......particularly without those elephant ears. I hope RWL isn't offended by the colors.
Dogonnit Roger, you caught me. She looks refreshing in Red, White and Blue after being black for two years.
Roger, that photo was taken last Sunday (March 24, 2002) in Bend, Oregon. The 4449 ran an overnight steam special from Portland to Bend and return. Doyle decided that the time was right to put the engine back into American Freedom Train colors. I rode the trip and it was incredibly moving. People held American flags up and saluted..................... You guys in the east need to fire up the 765 or some other wonderful steam loco and do the same thing. I only wish we could. The 765 is out of service for some time to come and ITM's 587 is out of service now and, I understand, sitting on the ground. Here was 587 in better days...
Well, Pere Marquette 1225 does still run on some NYC trackage once in awhile in Michigan. Fitz any word on the NYC forum? I tried the "new" one but couldn't get in.
That's right, and they have advertised a trip from Owosso to someplace north of there, maybe in June? Ron, the people who took over railroad net are rebuilding everything. Evidently there was some "vandalism" in their words. There were a few smart-a$$ posts on there just before it shut down. I don't know why people do that stuff. Anyway they have an explanation page at the basic address: Railroad Net
