Athearn suggests that these things will be around in the next couple of months----great, there goes more money out of the pocket! I was just counting the days until the Kato SD70macs showed up, but now maybe I don't need the H2 version and can get the less costly Athearn instead. I do think that these things look pretty good! BNSF out.
Just a note, these are SD75Ms from Athearn, completely different from the SD70MACs that Kato will be producing. Basically for Athearn, it is a new scheme on an existing model. Kato's is entirely new.
True, and the Athearn models are appropriate for just about any freight train BNSF runs, especially intermodal. The SD70MACs from Kato are only appropriate for coal trains. But, you can rest assured Athearn models will be easier to find and available at a lower price than the Katos, so if being prototypically exact isn't that important to you (I use 3 SD75Ms I painted in H2 as power for my BNSF coal train for now), these are great to see.
