Pictured is a GP38, # 2756, that is sandwiched between two GP35's (note the radiator fan arrangement), one in Southern paint (leading) and one in NS paint (trailing). Harold
Photo was taken at one of my favorite places: Boylan Jct., Raleigh, N.C. This location is where the Southern (later NS) and Seaboard (later CSX) [the main track in the foreground] cross the original Norfolk Southern that passes from raleigh to Fayetteville. Harold
Moderately heavy... The "crossing" track is much less heavily traveled than the foreground tracks... It is all relative, though,,, Harold
Not a problem Alan... This photo would probably be useful for a modeler, as it shows"roof shots" of GP35's & GP38's that would be helpful in detailing.... If you look at the GP38 in the picture, you can see that the dynamic brake blister appears to have been truncated to add a paper air filter. Harold
Just so this is not an all-Armour Yellow show, some BNSF: Cheyenne, WY: Same locale, north side of town:

Harold- I'm confused. I thought Southern RY used to run long hood forward. Had they discontinued the practice back then? Boxcab E50
I guess since the photo was taken 5 years after the formation of NS that the practice of running long hood forward had been discontinued? Harold
With a reversal of engine direction, I wonder if they had to reconfigure the cabs? Move the engineer's controls stands to the other side? Boxcab E50
Virgin Trains have leased a few HST sets for summer saturday traffic again this year, here power car 43113 trails a set leased from GNER away from Dawlish on the way to Edinburgh, whilst a pair of Voyagers head west....
