My little Southern 4-6-0 is unchanged from the factory except for flipping the front truck. Last night, I had it pulling 9 40’ Bachmann gondolas with a caboose on my loopti-loo that has a 2% grade. Somehow it turned out at an Atlas switch right at the start of the grade and headed to another line and into a closed Peco switch. It climbed the rail at the Peco switch pulling the gondolas over the rail with it onto the other line and proceeded up the 2% grade for about 6” until it hit a Bachmann 44 Tonner, then, pushed the 44 Tonner another 12” up the grade while continuing to pull gondolas over the rail, until, it started spinning though still making progress, when, finally I shut the system down. When I shut it down, it had pulled 7 gondolas over the rail and leaving only 2 gondolas and the caboose left to pull over the rails. Although this is extraordinary, overall I am impressed with this little steamer’s pulling ability.
Sounds to me like you need the N scale Denzel Williams on top of the train...and a little movie crew for "uNstoppable - the Sequel'
Did you drug test the engineer? Are the log books in order? Have you subpoenaed the appropriate phone logs? This sort of behavior will lead to chaos! On the other hand, to bad the video wasn't rolling, wish I'd seen it.
so Fred, What kind of oil do you use? Or maybe your sound system is made of recycled plastic from old Disney records "The Little Engine that Could". Has anyone out there had multiple locos of the same kind, but one of them just flat out out-performs the others and many others you have in your fleet? I have a Kato JNR Mogul which I Americanized and on my 4x8 flat layout pulls enough cars to cover almost one entire section, about 50 to 60 cars, but anyother Kato Mogul pulls about 15 cars max. Go figger. Ken "FloridaBoy' Willaman
I think the engineer read too many lub discussions and confused partook of clipper oil thinking it had mineral "spirits" in it instead of mineral oil ... and had some issues ... This thing wasn't going fullspeed though ... probably about 1/3 speed. It just kept on chugg'n
