Here is a pic of the AC4400s pushing the train up the grade. This is part of my stress testing on the trackwork:
Well, yes, if it was 1 or 2 percent. I chose 4+ percent because in actual opperation there will only be 4 or 5 cars being pushed. Those can easily be handled by a pair of geeps. By the way Bright Red was not random. I found it was much easier to track the train during my testing.
These two locos did push this up the grade with no slippage: Also interesting is that the pair seem to be running better together.
Very pretty. It's a pac man train. YAY! Are you DCC yet? How close are you to having an initial continuos run mainline on the layout?
No DCC yet. The main line will be DC/DCC. The GandG will only be DC. The main line is a long ways off. The only portion that currently exist is where it connects to the yard. In this picture the "Green Dream" is on the main. The other end of the main: [ January 20, 2006, 12:43 PM: Message edited by: Grey One ]
Grey, it's kind of cool to see the evolution of your layout. I had no idea you'd be able to run such long trains, very nice! I am hoping to be able to run ten car double headed consists on mine. although I have succeeded in running 13 car double headed consists on my old 2x4 layout. lol
Geeky, Tell ya what, You vacation in Boston and I'll: Put you and your wife up at my place Buy a DCC Pay you to install them Let you and the missus work on scenery Give you a personal tour of Boston and the area. Deal? (if I get a job)
Next big push: Adjust / fix the Kato #4s, (which means buy some files), Then insulate the track Put the leads in Build a control panel Hook it up
I have to agree with you. One step at a time. The turtle wins the race. I have really screwed up some layouts by jumping the gun too quickly before making sure track work was perfect. Operation is key. Otherwise it's just a huge diorama.
Update: The Grey and Grandure has been in a state of "temporary neglect" while the managment has focused on employment, women, and his other love, "Empire Deluxe Enhanced Edition". EDEE is a 4X turn based strategy game which gives almost all of the same feellings of satisfaction as model railroading at no cost. Occasionaly I'll spend an evening running a few trains mostly to impress the ladies or to try out a new engine I should not have bought. I'm not around here much because most of my time is focused on the game and women. I hope everyone is in good health and enjoying the world. Hi to all the new members of the board. This is a great! place to be.
Geeky, don't tell my wife that, or she'll think I've been running around on her while I was chasing UP 844 and 3985...... mg: Steve, great to hear from you! In other news, I managed to get CP action red paint for your F45's... They may be started soon... (that is, before winter)
Train Geek Man, Yess, I'm still here. You guys can't chase me away. RE: Women and Steam locos? Pics to follow. Hemi - It'l be great to get them. Rrrr likes pretty things.
Grades on the Grey and Grandure Here are the intended grades as far as I have planned them: I don't know if others can read them at this resolution. If not I suggest copying the picture into a graphics program and enlarging it.
Steve: Gorgeous schematic!! What software did you use, and did it have a steep learning curve? :unsure8ao:Have you done any test runs with your own locos and rolling stock on 6% grades? That seems like something not even a pair of fully functional Beasts in top operating condition could conquer.:teeth:
