Nice show! Energy efficient, low pollution, renewable power used to move people and freight. What a concept! Unfortunately, I can't make the 4400 mile commute. Even at 35 MPG, that works out to $400.00 in petrol.
What is shown on youtube is just a preview of the movie I created. The actual length of the film is about 20 mins. Edward Emanuel filmed all of the footage when he worked as an agent for the Milw in Ellensburg. On some days he filmed what he could. Some of the scenes throughout the film change in rapid succession as he was trying to preserve film length/time, especially during the whole trip from Ellensburg to Lower Crab Creek Bridge in a speeder. When I received the film the scenes were out of order. His kids at one time got into his reels of film and I guess mixed them up a bit. He tried his best to put them in order. I went even further and put them in almost perfect date and time order and also separated the Kittitas/Eastern Wa footage from the rest of his railroad footage. The film of course naturally is silent, but he had added his own music to it. However, his music did not sync up well after I had rearranged the scenes to be in order. Thus I had to add some new music. It was a major task but well worth it. We have Edward to thank for this film!
Getting ready to pack things up. Just thought I'd take a pic of my model for those of you who will not be able to attend. This way you'll kind of get to see what it will look like at the event. My backboards were removed before this photo was taken and are already packed. I had just finished mounting my side readers about the trestle and the comparison pics. Sorry about the mess in the garage!
This should pop a few eyes! Anyone who sees the display, and is not super impressed, well, they must be from another planet! Best wishes!!! Boxcab E50
The exhibit is in Ellensburg WA and held during the Kittitas County Fair Aug. 31-sept 4 Rob, your profile says you used to work for the milw. tells us more!!!
OK.....I worked at Bensenville yard for about 6 years. I also spent about a year at Union Station in Chicago. I worked in the clerical dept. I worked many positions at the yard office and surounding locations at Bensenville. This was back when everything was done with weigh bills and trainlists. Many of the 70 some tracks in the hump yard were physically check each day. When I first started as a clerk I speny many a night walking the yard and writing down the car numbers on train lists. The worst part of this duty was stepping in the rotting soy bean piles in the dark. If you managed to do this it was an immediate ticket home. The rest of staff couldn't stand the smell! I have many, many stories from those days. My father also worked for the Milwaukee for 40 some years in the Car department. Growing up I used to spend lots of time with him, just following him around and going with to derailments. He was a District General Car Forman...at least that's what they called him back then. The Milwaukee Railroad fed my family all those years so it has and always will have a special place wih us! I wish I could get to Ellensburg to see the exhibit.....I may try! Rob
