Picked mine up today!!! Very very nice! I also had the box signed by the main U.S. consultant to Rivarossi for the Allegheny project. Seems they have thought of just about everything on this one.

Only a partial shipment has been sent since it is taking longer than planned to produce these monsters. More will be coming in later January.

I hope that this is a well-built and smooth machine that will last a long time. Too bad I had to pack my track up already!!!!! I'll have to wait for a while before playing with this bad boy.

    Enjoy!!! :D

Wonderful, BNSF! Any chance you can get a pic of that beast posted soon? I love monster steam, and am seriously considering putting an interchange in my Norfolk & Way layout planning just to have one of those Allegheny behemoths make an appearance.

When you get to Texas, bring that Bad Boy over and run him on my layout until you get your layout up and running. Since I'm retired, it can be anytime convenient to you. You will be welcome.

All I can say is that I won't be able to post any pictures soon. Since we can't directly upload to this site as far as I know. Watash, I probably won't be bringing the beast along until late spring. I am staying in a small place that would not allow me to bring much fun along. Am hoping to get something better later.

Watash, I might take you up on the railroad stuff later, but most of my time will be spent with an incredible amount responsibility at my new job. I appreciate the offer and would look forward to meeting you in the future. I will just have to spend most all of my time working into this new position and won't have much time for fun or railfanning for a while.

Let me say this much about the Allegheny---it is better detailed than the mock up we saw from the train shows. It has better piping detail than I had expected. It is on par with the detail of the P2K, if not better. It does have many more smaller parts and many that can be customed fitted by the modeler than the P2K. The guys who tried it at my local hobby shop found they could pull 50 cars up a grade and about 100 cars on level track---that's power!!!!!!! I won't be pulling that many I don't think any time soon.

EM1: Take out that loan and go get one---I promise you it will blow your mind as far as a Rivarossi goes. I also hear that maybe Riv is working on a new BigBoy with the level of detail shown in the Allegheny---I can't wait.

    :D

    BNSF,
Thats great to hear on the Allegheny! I just might invest in one! The pictures of the thing were impressive... So having one in hand has to be something in the lines of WOW! HA! :D

Anyway for Black Cloud.... Heres a few more pictures of my articulated steamers!

This is the same one as above in the other post, Its the ex. UP Big Boy thats now a B&O EM-1 Yellowstone...

This one was a UP Challenger 4-6-6-4, I customized it to be a Western Maryland M-2 Challenger....

This is the rear view of the Western Maryland Challenger, without the UP "Centapede/Petistal" tender, replaced with a square welded long haul tender.... ENJOY!

Thanks for the pics guys! I love that EM-1. As soon as learn how to post a pic without a website of my own yet, I'll show you some of my Y6Bs and Js. I'm also trying to figure out how to kitbash a Class A 2-6-6-4 from a Riv Challenger.

    Black Cloud,
On your Challenger, to class A, 2-6-6-4, its not a kitbash! Its customizing! this is what i'm known for! And to set and think about it, a challenger to a 2-6-6-4 isn't any harder to do then my customization of a UP Big Boy 4-8-8-4 to a 2-8-8-4 Yellowstone! Its alittle work believe me! but fun as can be I love doing this type work. and as a few here on the board that knows me, Also knows my work. I do this type thing for a living... I own my own shop and so on... But on the Challenger and Big Boy... This may be hard to believe but those 2 models by Rivarossi kitbashed could be an older version of a Allegheny! Use the boiler and boiler frame from the Big Boy and use the drivers and engine beds and all from the Challenger and put them on the big boy boiler and boiler frame and work on the rear 6 trailing truck and all and then the tender. Its a very possible kitbash. Alittle choping on the plastic casting of the boiler and fire box of the Big Boy but I'm sure that it can be done... :D

All you need is a Bi-i-i-G roundhouse to work in like John says.

Even if you don't want to tackle the job yourself, John is the only one I would trust to do one of mine, and I'm really selfish!

You just have to ask him in kind, soft, soothing tones, and maybe he'll do one of his super-detailing jobs for you.

(Don't tell him I told his secret, but it does save you a few bucks, see?) SH-h-h-h-sh!! :D

    Watash,
Thanks for the compliment and privelage! :D I do have a question on your behemoth, that Big Boy of yours, the 6 pounder, did you paint that after it was made? I just thought about that! some paint job that would be! HA! But 6 pounds in the mail, and insured??? WOW....Thinking of that thing, I do have a question on it as well, did you put a Pittman DC-71 in him? Or did you dump 2 Pittmans DC-71's in him ???? Just wondering being its so dag gone heavy....I know one thing on him though! When you put a train on him no matter the length or amount of cars, when it says "go" those ole cars are definately gonna follow! :D

Stickymonk: Thanks for the offer, but I am not going to be able to take any photos because all my equipment it packed up for my move. As soon as I find a new house I will take a few, but by then you guys will probably have ones of your own. The Rivs are as good as the Protos in my own opinion---perhaps better. Mine is #848 of 2001. I wonder who will get #1633 of 2001?

    John,
Under the Philadelphia financial plan, railroads use to fund their locos with a 20% down
& 80% bonded debt. Title would initially pass to a financial inst(Bank-Ins Co ) acting
as trustee on behalf of the bond holders.
Perhaps you could also qualify and finance your 2-6-6-6.

    Chuck,
HA! It would be nice and a good idea but..... Who would be the trustee???? :D .. I still like the loan idea better! One day i'll have one. If not the riv H-8, but and/or the P2K Y3! :D

The Only thing about the H8 that's bad is that they don;t come with the smoke units, contacts for them but don;t have um,
I might just have to rob a couple others from the Bachmann units I have.
Never the less, I don;t know if I'll have the heart to run it much anyway,
Lot of money for a toy, and I would have a total fit if mine broke down.
    Lessing mine to the CB&Q/Burlington Route/Burlington Northen/BNSF.......

I just saw one of these bad boys at my club last night. I arrived to late to see it run, but the proud owner was all smiles. The most difficult thing about it appears to be getting it out of the box.

How much you guys paying for them. My local shop has 4 of them for 370.00 bucks. Not real bad considering the detail and performance. Dont know if I can justify a non N&W loco for my roster though :D ..Mike

In no way should you pay more than $350.00 for one of these bad boys! A month ago you could have had one for about $315.00 on reserve order. There are a few places on the web that will sell them for $350.00. I would not strongly consider putting smoke kits on these boys since it can pit the plastic and mess up your track.

Try Lee's trains at leestrains.com or Train World at trainworld.com

There are also many opportunities on ebay for a similar price.
