Still slow loading. I timed out going directly to the N scale board and came in through the main page. Ahhhhhh. Railroad fix! Al
Sorry guys this outage was planned by our ISP to more all servers to a new premises and unfortunately a 4 hours outage turned into 2 days. We do apologise but its all in the name of progress. We will be moving very soon to a semidedicated server so yes we will be down again but hopefully not for long. Once we are moved we hope to have an improved service.
Everything is back, but it took approx. 5 min to get to the N-scale screen. I am sure it will be faster when I get in through the T-3 line at work tomorrow. Upgrades never go as planned. Len
I am at work and the site came up with the speed of light. I couldn't believe it. At home, I have a dial up connection that requires the signal to go through 15 miles of barbed wire. Needless to say, all downloads greater than a meg are done here at work. Cheers Len
I too go through the same speed difference between work and home. Since I remember the days of 300 Baud, having 24.6K connection at home seems fast in some ways so I just don't think about it. Heck, remember when fax speeds of 14.4K seemed fast and WOW came 28.8K then 56K. Now people can't believe at one time I did IT on paper tape & cards and hardcopy greenbar as that seems so far away to them. Did I just date myself?
Gee, and I thought Commodore 64s were the bee's knees when they came out! Now, my poor, little, outdated IBM Aptiva with only 6 gigs on the hard drive....sniff.....outdated almost before we bought it. But wasn't it one of the computer giants who thought that 640K was all we would ever need? (Hint: he's richer than most Third World countries today).
Remember the Commodore "Pet" which predates the 64 and they APPLE computers? It didn't even have a harddrive or a floppy...
For the record, I have DSL at home and broadband at work, and right now both are loading up nicely. I had to do some housekeeping on the home 'puter (taking out the trash, defragging the hard drive), but now all is well. Just give us a heads-up before you go down, now that we're expecting the downtime.
