I received the March Railfan and Railroad magazine in the mail today. Browsing through it, way back in the back where they have a little preview of the next month's articles, I came face to face with "my" photo that I was so proud of getting on 4449's Montana tour. The photo is by Ted Benson. When I shot mine, there were about 10 other guys at the same spot. Guess one of em was Ted. I didn't recognize him. He has a good article in the March issue about his friend Dick Steinheimer.
Here's mine, and if you have the magazine, compare it to Ted's. [IMG]

All I can say is cool! If only the clearances weren't a problem, it could've come through New England on the AFT.

Thank you guys. Ted posted a message over on Altamont Press and now he and I have carried on a bit of a conversation about that shot. He is lamenting the weather, which wasn't good, and the fact that MRL sold off their passenger cars, which bodes doom for the chance to do this again in the future. All I can say is carry your camera at all times and don't miss today's opportunity. It may be gone tomorrow. [IMG]

Speaking of gone tomorrow...what is the future of the semaphores on that line.

Don, they were scheduled to be removed and replaced even as that special ran, which is the reason I went there. One of our northwest fans, Ted Curphey, got a great shot of SP&S 700 on the first "Montana by Steam" excursion, splitting two semaphores. Ever since then I have wanted to try to duplicate that shot. Never having been there before, I was lucky to get what I got (and thankful, especially to the folks on Yahoo's MRL group who were very helpfull with their info on where to go for these shots.) This internet is a great source of info. :D
