The layout I built with a few of my students is done except the scenicing. I brought it home for the holidays to play with. It's a real hoot! Here's a link to the game that we built. Riverside Yard I'll post a photo if someone can tell me how.
Looks interesting! Try setting up an account in Rail Images , and post your pics there. Our very own Colonel is the boss-fella for Rail Images, and can guide you through the setup process. From there, you can post pics to Trainboard (or anywhere else). We'd love to see pics!
alcodiesel Thought your layout looked familiar so did a search for John Allen's Timesaver. He did an article on it in MR back in 1972. Here's a link to a website that describes how to design, build and operate several variations of his Timesaver. http://www.wymann.info/ShuntingPuzzles/sw-timesaver.html Check it out as I will looking at it more to get some inspiration. Living in an apartment this is the perfect size for an "Empire"! Thanks alcodiesel for posting your plan.
Does anybody keep track on what the minimum number of moves is to complete the puzzle? I must confess 40 is as low as I got over the holidays Thanks again for posting it, alcodiesel! William
alcodiesel, So YOU'RE the one responsible for a lot of my wasted time!!!!! I've played the Riverside yard puzzle MANY times. Great fun! Thanks!
Anyone try RRswitchit? It is a freeware puzzle with about seven different switching schemes. Sort of like a computer game. Interesting puzzles, but I don't think it has a John Allen setup. The patterns are much more complicated than that. It also grades you for time and the number of moves.
RRswitch has aparently become proprietary. Here is the website: http://members.aol.com/challengeproduct/cp_rrsw.htm Costs about 20 US$, but it appears to have many more facets than it used to have as freeware.
