switch to Microtrain couplers, or keep the Katos?

Should I switch to Microtrain couplers for my layout, or keep the Kato knuckles that came on my new locomotive? Which are better, more realistic. The Kato ones look pretty realistic, but do they operate practically enough for a layout... or are they compatible with Microtrains?

The Kato couplers are compatable with the Mt couplers but will not auto uncouple. I change all my couplers to MT as they work far better than the Kato. I'm sure others will have similar ideas.

I have 6 of the SD40-2s. On 4 of them the stock KATO couplers work just fine.On the other 2 they would probly uncouple pushing a train. I will replace all of them with MTs if for no other reason than for compatibility.

Change 'em to MICRO-TRAINS COUPLERS. You pay for what you get. When you have the MT's adjusted right on the nose, they will work just as advertised. You can uncouple and then set the couplers for delay and they will let you drop a car where you want to. If you have all MICRO-TRAINS couplers they will all work together. It will cost a little more, but it is worth it.

I'd switch to MT couplers. Right now, just waiting for the new MT couplers to come in to replace all the couplers on my SD-40's. Nice loco's, but they do not push well. That's about the only thing that tick's me off about KATO. Pushing cars over a switch will force some of the cars to derail because of the stiffness of the shorter couplers that come on the SD-40's. It would seem that if they designed the track at least they would sell a product that didn't uncouple on the sharper KATO curves that they sell.

And I thought the old Horn and Hook couplers were the best (lol) [IMG] !! I have mainly Kato because they are older cars, but as soon as possible I am switching to MT, they work much better [IMG] [IMG]!! Happy Modelimg!!
