Yep, that's a standard DRGW gon, and a nice one at that! I don't think of them as beaters but simply having added character :D

    D&RGW ex-Railgons

    Hi all,
Others beat me to the ex-Railgon explanation, however, I am currently working on a database of D&RGW ex-railgon numbers. So far I have 75 that I can document with either photos or visual observation.
I will post the data base ASAP so others may add to it if you wish.
    Thanks.

    Speaking of Survivors...

Found this sitting in a string of cars north of Durango, Colorado:

It is still in use given the string of cars it was in...

Not bad condition. Looks like it's been repainted in the last decade or so.

Unfortunately the light was bad for this photo so I had to enhance the color on the photo to make the whole thing stand out...that is the way with railfanning I guess...

Good catch! Even my most recent survivor shot below benefited from some slight photo enhancement.

Man, I gotta get up there again! Almost made it last weekend but when I caught up with the Montrose train it took all my time.

    Denver Union Station

I traveled from Santa Fe to Denver for the weekend. Don't know if the Ski train qualifies as a survivor, But it was a good photo opportunity I would really like to model some of these in HO

The baggage cart is definitely a survivor. I saw these pictured in some photos that appeared in the Rio Grande in color book series. They probably have been around since the early 60's

The Ski Train F40's are not Grande-heritage, and all, but they deserve honorable mention!
    Man, I miss Colorado!

So do I. There is so much that is changed. Ther is light rail everywhere. Up and down I-25 and at Union Station. I hardly recognized the place. I used to see the union Station while driving on I-25. It is no longer visible due to all of the high rises being built. Daniels fisher has all been obliterated by larger sky scrapers.
