I was just running an Atlas loco(N scale) with a Digitrax decoder that I have been running for over two years with no trouble whatsoever. I was backing it into a siding at slow speed and all of a sudden it went dead - nothing responding. I thought it might have been a short but all my other locos were OK. I lifted it off the track and placed it on a different section of track, still noting - totally dead - no response. I was going to take it apart to see if the decoder became disconnected somehow, but I thought, let me reprogram the decoder and see what happens. So that's what i did. I reprogrammed the decoder to the address it always was and now it's OK again.
Is this a normal occurance? or is this just a weird thing that happened

It happens... luckily the recoding took, and you can use it again. Others have not been so fortunate.

I have not yet had that problem with a digitrax decoder, however the QSI equipped locos at my club "lose" their programming quite often when shorts occur on the railroad. its really frustrating to have to explain that to the visitors when it happens. :-(

Sometimes this happens and the decoder has to be reprogrammed to the loco's address.

Stay cool and run steam.... [IMG]

Yep, same thing has happened to me with both Lenz and Digitrax decoders, usually when a short occurs. Really had me going the first time it happened.
