....of Model Railroading for a while. While I hate to do it, i haven't even touched my layout in 4 months! It hasn't been as appealing to me as it used to be, but Railfanning has. I'll still be here (on occasion) on the board, but for now the trains will be boxed. Now If I can get ahold of a scanner, I can give Brian a run for his money. (j/k Brian, I couldn't get near as good of a Photographer as you, bud)
I think we all understand. I've been on a modeling hiatus for probably over six months now. I didn't even take a pic from Jan to early May. Just been lurking in the shadows and trying to keep my sites updated. Gotta take a break for other things once in awhile.
Pat, I had done the same for closely near 2 months! Now I'm back an ready to rumble in the rubble on my desk!
John. It's great to see the professor of steam locomotion back on track. Your synopsis are always very enlightening.
Chuck, I went on working non stop for like 5 years straight! No vacation or time off just kept going an kinda got in a relationship with a girl an all an it went sour more or less but even tho I went that route an all I was never thinking of dropping the shop or anything... I will say, I burnt out alittle from being away from the desk an all but I'll get my insparation back an be right back at it once I get everything straightened up with the shop an all being I got stuff piled everywhere from being away for that period of time....
This is a great aspect of model railroading. Your stuff can be mothballed until interest picks back up. Then you're ready to roll again. I am just the opposite of Pat. My interest in railfanning died out in the 1980's after the Milwaukee Road quit the west. And having been involved some in the industry, modern RRing just has no appeal. Truly creative minds are few and far between. Especially that company that comes through my valley. Boxcab E50
So I take it that you don't care to shoot the MRL, Boxcab? Or the shortlines in Montana? I can understahd, though- after the MopUp merger in 1982, the Katy merger to MP (yes, it was MP- long story there) in 1988, and my absence from KCS in the late 1990s, my interest dried up as well. Now that I'm back in Texas, my desire to chase shortlines has picked up again. And with summer, it's kinda hard to do much modeling. The grass needs cutting, the fish are calling your name, the kids wanna go swimming, the trains are running at Tower 55, etc- plus that pesky job ya gotta keep going to But hey- when the weather cools off, and the leaves turn, your modeling juices will come back. And your trains will still be there, waiting for you. BTW, guess how long it takes the air conditioner in the attic of my home to cool the room off enough to work in......specially in the Texas summer
Yes, but unfortunately the tower is closed off to us railfans now Thank goodness for cowboy hats, sunscreen and Gatorade!
Nope. There are basically four MRL, MW (soon to be gone?), CMR, Rarus. The latter RR name flat out stinks. Miles and miles, of miles and miles. Depots mostly all gone. Automation that has eliminated so many of the people once seen keeping a RR operating. MRL gets a fair amount of it's traffic via a BN(SF) traffic (car count) clause in the lease. So a lot of road power is BN(SF). Maybe I'll get out this summer. Just so I can say I did it. But haven't chased a train since 1999. That was an MRL local. Boxcab E50
