Hey guys, I need some parts for a loco I'm building that I can't seem to get in my area. Not one Hobby shop has anything or can get them so I'm going to try here!

I need a powered set of SD-40-2 trucks, or a powered set of SD-40T-2 trucks. Anyone that has a set, feel free to e-mail me on what you would be willing to sell them for or make a trade for them, and an idea of what you might want for a trade for them. If nothing else, if someone lives close to a hobby shop that can get them, let me know in e-mail that you can get them an maybe a cost for them! As I need a set an can't get anything from a local hobby shop. As I don't like dealing with Athearn themself being half the time they want to sell a whole new loco to me instead of selling me just parts.... TIA

Hi John, If you post the Athearn part # you need, I'll check at my LHS. Pretty sure he has SD45 trucks, are they the same?

Negative on the SD45 trucks - they're different than the HT-C trucks Athearn uses on the SD40-2 and SD40T-2 (and the upcoming SD50!). John, have you tried contacting Athearn directly? They did a run of SD40-2s not too long ago, and might have some parts in stock. Check their website (www.athearn.com) for contact help for parts.

The part numbers I need are as follows:

44011 and 44012. Both front an rear trucks.

Let me know Gary, and if possible a cost for each.

    Paul,
I've tried Athearn directly an they are out to sell me an entire locomotive as I only need the front an rear geared (powered) trucks! So, this is my resort in getting a project of mine, sorted an ready to do the frame/powering work, to an up comming SD-80MAC thats a RPP based unit, with the modifications, and going to be powered like a Athearn dual motor DD-40 is, with 3 flywheels, (One flywheel connecting the 2 motors, and one flywheel on each end shaft of the opposite ends of the motors!) I got to thinking, and this will be a super powered SD-80MAC(I'm also adding as much weight as very possible!), with A-Line motors..... :D Not to mention, a design all on its own! With as much detail as humanly possible!

    Steve,
Thats not a problem.. Hopefully I get around the trouble to get the project completed.....

You've seen (I think) the pictures of CSWX #801, which is an SD-80MAC.... Thats the loco in focus on this project! I'm working from the railhead up.... All from my own drawing board... When completed, I'm hoping to achieve the move power on 6 axles, an weight as possible, with a plastic shell super detailed as Pray59's N scale F units are! Just in HO scale. I want all the lights to have their own bulb, the ditch lights to alternately blink, every detail hand applied as possible, every brake line seen by the eye at a normal depth of a photographer. (Being I'm just that as well, the photographer).

Beibng I model the B&O in the days of steam, an learned detailing the hard way (steam loco's first) I want my first custom built diesel to be the best of my work first off the bench, onto the layout with all the power, and all the weight possible to go to a maximum output without going into extreme expense in doing so... an to then have a "show stopper" locomotive to put in my CSX diesel fleet as the "Best Of" sort of deal... Being that CSX, SD-80MAC #801 is the biggest locomotive on CSX rails, depicking the last CSX loco to recieve the colors you seen in those picture called the "Bright Future" sceme.

Once I get the results on this one. I may go into doing a custom CSX C-60AC as well... I haven't made up my mind... A also may do a few other CSX SD-80MAC's too.... another thought riding on 3 sheets in the wind right now, which is pending on the results of the one I'm currently working on.....

But yes, once this is done an all. I will have pictures of it..... As I know I'm slow in doing this type thing, but it will be a while till this one is ready for the rails! But my shop is owned, opperated, an all work is done by 2 hands an only 2 hands... my own! So.... Which I hope will "spark" up another section in my shop that I want to add to what I already do... And take that next step to do custom detail work on diesels.....

I'm new to this rebuilding and building HO trains. But I know some guys who build and rebuild engines something like you were talking about. I think, remember I'm still new at this. You can get in touch with the hobbie store owner at this web site. It is a local store starting up here in my home town. Eric is a good an honest person. So is the model railroad club members that meet in the store basement ( sorry hed to add a little plug in there). Any problems or questions you can email me direct. [IMG]
