I would like to know what that top part of this engine is for: Thanks for your help cause this looks really different than any I have seen before.
LadySunShine, If your refering to the square box on the top of the loco towards the back that you can see the corner of it. Is this the part your talking about??? If so its whats called a "Winterization Hatch" used to keep heat from the exhast fan to keep the coolant warm so it doesn't freeze I believe. I know it has something to do with the exhaust and the heat comming off the diesel inside. Alot of railroads used this that was in areas that got cold winters. If I'm mistaken guys please feel free to correct my post.... As for the information I said I'm not 100% sure its correct... If not I know its close.... HTH
Ladysunshine, What part of the roof are you questioning? I will give a run down from the fron to rear of the locomotive of the major things on there. 1. The horn 2. Skinny thing right behind it-Antenna, 3. to the right are the cooling fans 4. The boxy looking thing is a winterazation hatch. Hope this helps. jOHN IS CORRECT WITH THE wINTERIZATION BIT [ 21 November 2001: Message edited by: BN9900 ]</p>
