Greeting gentlemen, I've just sealed the deal on a Kato M250 Super Rail Cargo train, the 8 car set. I intend to convert the train to DCC and would love some advice on the decoders needed to successfully make this transformation. My guess is that I'm going to have to install 3 decoders, one in each end car to control directional lighting and the other in the engine car. Has anyone here done this before or is familiar with the set and can give some advice? Let me know. Any feedback is much appreciated. verse
Richard: I wish I could help you but I've never seen that Kato loco. You could hardwire Lenz mini gold decoders in the loco. Stay cool and run steam....
So, this is what i did, I used the led board for current pick-up and i put the decoder(dz123) in the rear "cab" of the engine. The wires have to run across the container. I drilled a small hole on each side of the container and on the inside of the two "cabs". You can in fact see the wires but the space between cab and container is so small, you can't notice it when it's running... hope this help.
Here is the link to the engine that is been asked about http://www.wig-wag-trains.com/KatoPages/Kato%20Pictures/Japan%20Proto/m250kei_e_1.jpg
I'm not into Japanese rr's but have always wanted one of these sets for some reason.Very nice set, congrats on your buy. Btw,can I ask how much & where from ?
Jason, I bought it on Ebay for $123.00. That's the cheapest that I've seen it go for, so I had to get it. Now I on the prowl for the 8 car add on set.
