So far I am overwhelmed by the quality of the Challenger. I do however have one small problem that is bugging me. First, I can only program it on the main and second, I cannot get the bell rate to change from the slowest speed and cannot change the sound to see what the other bells are like? I can change the chaff and the whistles and the volume, but not the bell. I have a Digitrax Super Chief and a DT400 controller? Any ideas? Doc
Doc, I also have the Digitrax Super Chief and DT400. I just tried to change the bell CV's 52, 53 and 54. Turn on the bell and then go into the programming mode. Make sure the DT400 displays Po, you can then change the bell CV's and hear the changes while still in the programming mode. The decoders in sound equiped locomotives need more voltage than is put out by the programming tract so you need to use OPS mode programming (programming on the main line). I am disapointed in the sound volume of the Challenger. At a 10 to 15 setting on the DT400 the sound made by the running locomotive drowns out the chuff and the bell and whistle can barely be heard. Otherwise I am very pleased with the Challenger. I hope this is of some help. John Butler
If your planning on doing a lot of sound decoder programming, you could look into a booster for the programming track. http://www.litchfieldstation.com/xcart/product.php?productid=678829002&cat=165&page=1 Jason
Be careful with these tho. I found that the PowerPax is incompatible with the decoders install in PCM E7's.
I tried your suggestion. No Go. I can change everything else, whistle, volume, chaff and bell sounds, but not the rate. It stays at the slow clang. Sloooooow! Doc
