Does anyone know where the SL&E crossed the GN main line west of Medical lake Wa? I am attempting to trace the the line from Elanore to Medical lake. This was the section that was abandoned by the NP after they took control. Kevin
I suppose you mean the Seattle Lake Shore & Eastern, right? Anyway, satellite images show that it crossed west of Espanola. So, if you are driving out of Medical Lake on Espanola Road, where it changes to Chase Road, while Espanola Road turns north, continue on Chase Road until you see Ladd Road turn to the right. Half-way between Chase and Hallett is the SLS&E crossing of Ladd Road, but about 1/2 mile west, the grade crosses the GN. The ROW should be evident through here. Clear enough? The grade is pretty easy to follow on maps.live.com from Davenport to nearly Spokane, where later construction obliterates any grade.
Another thing is the construction of the new Geiger Spur off the EWG to bypass Fairchild AFB has been well documented here: New railroad construction gets underway - RailroadForums.Com It crosses the old SLS&E as well.
Thanks Dan, now that I have a idea of where it was I can find the right-of-way in the pictures, I always lost it east of Elenore and West of Craig Rd near Medical Lake. I tried finding it from the cab of a freight the other day but going by at 50MPH on the train was a little hard. By the way, do you know anything about the wood passenger car between Adrian and Air Base out your way? Thanks, Kevin
Kevin, Other than it is about 1/4 mile east of the old Soap Lake depot, not much. I have meant to stop by the house next to it and inquire. Dan
