Just recieved the other day, a second NJ brass Rio Grande Prospector Set. This set named for Brigham Young and Heber C. Kimball. Now, I have BOTH Prospector sets the Rio Grande had, if only very briefly, back in 1941! No more HO stuff! Got a UP passenger set today, N Scale. Adding a few more cars to my UP excursion set.
I am slowly updating and modernizing my fleet of rolling stock. Here are my two newest acquisitions as of today.
Picked these up on E-Bay for a good price! Pair of GMD style SD40-2's for the CP, now I have something to haul all the Canadian Wheat Board Covered Hoppers that I painted and decaled. Rick Jesionowski
Not HO but it is May, the month I call spoil the wife month. (Mother’s Day and her birthday all fall in May). So I took her to our LHS where she finds lots of fun stuff every time she goes. Happened today too. So yes I broke down and spent $600 on her. In two weeks I will break down again and buy her three more tables to put all this on. I also put on order some track accessories that she wants too.
A couple of weeks ago now, (I've managed to stay way too busy) I ordered this little beast from Horizon. For anyone unfamiliar, it's an Electro Motive model 40, built in very low quantity between 1940 and 1943. Always wanted some sort of a little critter. This one will "replace" my Bachmann 0-6-0T in the '40s and later operating sessions.
Nice cars! I also bought two Walthers Mainline 50-footers, in Ashley Drew & Northern colors, for my favorite price (cheap). They need a wee bit of weathering (not much, as I model the 70s, and these cars only got a little bit of road grime). Soon as I get a picture, I'll upload them here.
I have been on a trip in Germany for the past week and a half, and of course I had to come back with model trains. My friends I went with were probably annoyed with me for stopping in all the toy stores we saw. I found this Jouef SNCF Z2-9500 in a bookstore and went for it. It was 65 Euros, so it wasn't too bad. The ones on EBay are a lot more. I just oiled the motor and it runs alright. It only has one pickup truck, so it is a little shakey. I am thinking about adding wipers to the unpowered car for better pickup. It also needs DCC, and it looks like a good candidate for a light package upgrade.
On the second leg of our journey, we stopped in Vienna. I had gotten the Jouef one a few days ago, so I was still feeling good about my train purchase. That's when I stumbled upon a toy store by St. Stephans Cathedral. It had a shelf in the window with a bunch of trains on it. I was unsure if I could bring myself to buy one, so I said we should move on and I'll think about it. I decided to just pull the trigger on a big one and went back and asked about it (in the worst German I spoke on the trip). I've been buying trains for years and I still get that adrenaline rush so all my German went out the window. The cashier told me to go upstairs, and the train in the window had nothing on what was up there. It was a toy store with dolls and little kid stuff on the bottom, but upstairs had a full model shop with a bunch of trains and Revell models. I selected a PIKO Railjet from the display case. I was prepared to just wrap it in paper, but the guy came back with one new in box. I spent 260 Euros on it, but man, it was worth it.
I received this weekend three 53’ well cars for my intermodal train. I will add those to the three 48’ well care and the two 53’ trailer flats. I went ahead and ordered 5 more cars and 3 more containers to finish off my train. 3 53’ well cars and 2 48’ well cars. That should do it for a while now.
Christmas came early post lady brought me 1 new Ho scaletrains gatc 4180 airslide to be repainted into my freelance roads scheme got it off fleabay for $6. Received 3 new Ho scaletrains PS-2CD 4785 hoppers 1 Cargill, 1 Staley, 1 cotton belt.
I’ve added to my intermodal train this month. Here is a shot of the new stuff and the whole train. One of the containers I ordered ended up on back order.
The ScaleTrains 4785 covered hoppers look really nice. The Cargill looks especially nice but is too early for my late 1970's era theme. If ST comes out with the latter version with the teardrop logo on each end, I'll buy one. The center logo for the Cargill cars doesn't appear to have lasted past the early 1970's. I did order and receive the one of the ST green Highland Feeders hoppers. It is my very first ScaleTrains model and looks very nice. I've wanted to support this relatively new model company but this is the first model I really wanted to buy. I already have a bunch of 50' Evan's box cars from Atlas so the ST kit is redundant for me and lower detail. The SP and D&RGW never owned any SD40-2's, nice as the ST engine is. Tangent already had the Airslides I needed although ST has announced D&RGW and WP coming later this year - which is great. I've wanted to buy a Carbon Black but can't figure out if any would have traveled thru the Rockies to SLC so have held off. Much of the other stuff is way too modern for my 1979/80 focus. Once I get caught up with a few other commitments, I may grab one of the ST Staley cars and maybe an SSW. Both look very nice.
