Another recent purchase is this MAV (Hungarian) "Gigant" V63. These are very impressive, can't wait to get the catenary erected so I can run it!
I suppose I could take a picture, and may do so a little later on, once my hands stop shaking. I can no longer say the last "new" engine I got was the 1949 and earlier Varney Super Mike. It is now a new in the box PennLine T-1 kit. Holy Smokes. had it 15 minutes. Thank God for Spell Check. Dave
Got this a few months ago at the latest Indian Nations meeting in Tulsa: Atlas S2, one of the later versions, DCC-ready. It'll become either a Frisco or an NEO diesel.
$10 at the LHS. I shortened this car 4 feet, repainted it, added some dry transfers, added new trucks and added a new floor. Weathering to come. Jim
Here are a few pictures of my latest acquisition an MLW M630 (ALCO Licensed Product) painted in one of the neatest schemes ever the Canadian Pacific Script in Maroon and Gray! Rick J
Very nice! I love Alcos/MLW's as do many others I am sure! But I have to say that my favourite CP livery is the 'Pac-Man' scheme, probably because that is what I saw during a visit to Toronto in 1985!
I second your love for Alcos. I like the old CP livery, though I am a fan of CN - especially the green and yellow. I grew up with a gaggle of Pac-Man RS18s in my neck of the woods, and I always found the sound of those 251s thrilling, when they came up the grade at notch 8. At the time they were in the 8700 series, a few years later they were overhauled and had their noses chopped, renumbered to the 1800s, and even today, there are a few stubborn survivors of that group gurgling merrily along various lines in North America. Great memories.
If I were to model North American Railroads (again), I would do CN as I liked the striped scheme we saw many of, plus the big CN on all black units, some with red cabs. Good era the 80's! Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
My dip into HO & OO.... HO I wouldn't be a True Brit if I didn't also do OO... I always wanted an A4 as a kid
An A4 is a superb locomotive to have. Any particular reason you ahve a Haymarket allocated one? (I was in the Peterborough-Grantham area when I watched them regularly). I am also a Brit, but have modelled more 'foreign' stuff than UK for years! Now have Slovenian HO - and I can just pop out and watch them when the mood takes me
No Ken, Haymarket locomotive depot is in Edinburgh, Scotland where several pacifics were stationed to work the northern end of the London-Scotland east coast main line. Some found there way all the way down to London. The A4 shown is 60027 Merlin. I remember photographing it at Stoke tunnel, well away from home. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
Ken, Haymarket would be the Engine Shed the real loco was assigned to during its working life. Alan, I'll just go with the honest answer - it was a bargain at 'Brighton ModelWorld 2013' - £80 as opposed to Hornby's RRP of £155; and its name, "Merlin" - my 15 year old daughter is a big fan of the BBC TV Series that came to an end at Christmas
