SERVICE AREA REPORTS St Paul Service Area; FLOODING Update #5; 04/23/2001 Snow melt and heavy rain in Minnesota and North Dakota caused the Mississippi River rise to a level which resulted in flooding in St. Paul Yard. The river crested Thursday, April 19 at 23.5 feet in St. Paul. Since that time, the water has receded to 21 feet and CPR has been working to recover operations in the yard and on the main line. The main line between St. Paul and New Lisbon, Minnesota has been operating as capacity permits. Detours and reroutes commenced at 18:00 CST April 15 and are expected to continue through the end of this week. Embargoes are being evaluated individually and are being lifted as local operations are recovered. It is expected that restricted operations will continue for approximately one week. Although it is difficult to accurately predict the length delays, it is estimated that shipments traveling through and within the US Midwest will experience delays of up to 48 hours.
