Does anyone know the status of BNSF SD45B #7503. This unit was formerly ATSF #5502. I am wondering if it is still active and what paint scheme it is in. I am going to model this unit in N-scale so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. ------------------ Richard Turney
Im not 100% sure, but I believe BNSF 7503 is still in ATSF B/Y paint, but has been renumbered to BNSF, with initials. ------------------ Cya own the line! Dash http://www.dashtrak.com
I have the book "BNSF Motive Power Review 1998-99", by Robert Del Grosso. On page 144 is a photograph and details of ATSF 5502. It is classified as SD40B, and gives the hp as 3000, with a 16-645E3 prime mover. Whereas, in the index, it is called a SD45B. Does anyone know which is correct? It certainly shows the flared radiators of a '45. It was built as ATSF SD45 1847, then renumbered 5547, then 5340, and finally 5502, before being renumbered and lettered BNSF 7503. Converted to B unit 10/86. ------------------ Alan Curtis. Moderator. I have that same book Alan. In fact, that's where I found out what it's BNSF number was. There is also a pic of it in THE SANTA FE DIESEL vol 2 by Dr Cinthia Priest. I think the info is correct about it being rebuilt as a SD40B. It is still a good looking unit though. ------------------ Richard Turney
7503 is referred to by the diesel shop at Corwith Chicago as a SD40. Usually runs on the P CHILAC trains. Another conductor in Gallup NM gives me a heads up when the "odd" power is coming east.
The BNSF`s 7503 SD45B unit still adorns the BNSF roster. It has the distinction as being the one and only SD45B unit the company owns. Long live the 45B !
I would love to see it. We did see a couple of SD45-2B's when we were over there. ------------------ Alan Curtis. Moderator. Member #12 The perfect combination - BNSF and N Scale! www.alancurtismodels.com Andersley Western Railroad Alan's American Gallery
