I have ran into this topic many times in others posts. The scratchbuilt locomotives of our forefathers are true gems in our hobby. The only problem now is that it seems this process is becoming a lost art...perhaps due to my generation wanting to have no part in any dirty work of any sort other then partying all night. What practices are recommended toward scratchbuilding, specially considering that anymore people can barely do a tenth mechanically of the earlier generations. Any recommended reading material, publications, or other outlets that cover the entire process? If not, perhaps now is the time to start compiling the data before it is lost permanantly. I agree that scratchbuilding doesn't seem to be covered much. My abilities lie far beneath steam right now. I am slowly building the skills necessary to contruct a Southern streamlined Ps4 Pacific. Currently I am taking measurements of a RSD-1 at TVRM and making scale drawings. This will be my first attempt at scratchbuilding from the rails up. Good luck to both our efforts.
