I have the itch to do more scratchbuilding, but I need a source for Wood and plastic.

Primarily, a source of small lumber, siding, stripwood, and scribbed siding (Easy to make stripwood from scribbed siding)

If anybody knows of one supplier that also cariies evergreen as weel, that would be awesome.

    Thanks

I'm just about to order a some Evergreen styrene sheets and some tools from this place

    http://www.1stplacehobbies.com

I haven't used them before, but they have a lot of scratch building materials, and I decided to give them a try.

by the way. I have never done any scratch building before, but after reading a few threads on this and another board about the subject , and seeing some of the results, I decided to give it a try. Also, I just bought TurboCad v8 on eBay ($40), for the very same reason.
Another reason for trying scratch building is that I don't want my layout to have the "standard Walthers" look.

Maybe I will change my mind and accept the Walthers look after the first attempt :-(

I just ordered some scratch building supplies from the Flying Scotsman Hobbies http://www.fshobby.com. He carries Evergreen and Northeastern Scale Lumber. He offers 30% off list and $4.00 shipping. 1stPlace Hobbies offers something less than 30% and charges $7.95 for shipping. You might want to give Flying Scotsman a try.

Hey David, Have you ever used Flying Scotsman before? If so what do you think of thier service? I've been looking for another mail order company thats reliable. Lately I have just been using Walthers.

I don't do a huge amount of scratchbuilding, but I do use acres of scale lumber for making loads. I usually make my own on the table saw by setting the fence and then running recovered wood through many times. I mostly use recovered pine from old pallets which I get free from any number of places. For things which require a lot of precison such as structures that have to look like they were just built I use commercial stripwood from the LHS, but for everything else my homemade stuff is good enough.

    Andy,

I just used them for the first time last Tuesday. The owner was extremely responsive to my questions and even cut the price on some of the items I ordered over the normal 30% discount. I had wanted 22" lengths of scale wood but he couldn't get them from his supplier so he offered me a bigger discount on the 11" lengths. He sent me several emails during the rest of the week to let me know what was available immediately and what would take a little longer. He then emailed me again to tell me that my order was packed and ready to be shipped. In summary, excellent prices and service.
