OK, not Z scale but Mattel makes a Hot Wheels radar gun for 1:64 scale. Divide by 3.4375 for z scale or make up a table. Uses 10GHz true radar and good up to 3' but for Z more like 1' (0.3m).
Suuuuuuuuure Jeff. I bet your other hobby is playing with Hot Wheels. Actually, I have given some thought of installing a speed "radar' in my layout. The one I saw in MR will work in z without conversion, but I been buying too many stuff and have it lay it around the garage. I dont want to be a Randy.
John, You certainly can use any optical or track gap detector with a digital colock circuit to do the same. Just have to design it or find it.
Hi Do You know there is an announcement about a two parts speedometer car (made by Michael Bahls) that sends all the datas via bluetooth to a pc, pda or mobile phone? It sends informations about speed, speed max, running time and distance. There is an additional display at the top of the car for the actual speed. But i dont know, wether it ever happens. Yet available is this configuration without the bluetooth function for 239€.
Larry, at 239 Euros we are talking Jurg's kind of budget. Jeff, I am really interested in your set up. Nice and simple. I am thinking of getting one also. Did you manually calculated to check the accuracy of the radar gun? If it is accurate, then I want one too.
This radar gun looks like a lot of fun at shows! We can put a couple of them around the layout for people to play with! I am sure it will be a hit, so when I get mine, I will make a new decal to replace the Hot Wheels log with the BAZ BoyZ logo for more fun!
the $1.98 calculation looks accurate enough. I'm not optimizing or speed matching. Reads relatively consistant. Maybe someone else can invest the time
