1950's Santa-Fe Super-Chief: Can anyone tell me if it was possible to send a wire from the moving train? I have read things that suggest this was possible. Can ANYONE help?
Pete The 1949 Super Chief brochure has been scanned and posted here. Click on the individual pages to display them. ===== http://www.atsfrr.net/resources/Haben/Super%20Chief/Super%20Chief%201949/index.htm ===== While not mentioning sending telegrams from a moving train, it does mention radio service and music from wire recordings. The Super Chief was Santa Fe's flagship train. The conductor was able to send his messages on ahead, so sending a wire for a paying passenger seems quite likely. eNjoy [ 06. Thanks for that, Yes I have that already but as you say it is not all that clear and I am looking at the new improved cars that they started running in the 1950's with the Pleasuredome etc. Anyone else any ideas??
The August 93 Model Railroader has an article about the 1951 Super Chief. I don't have access to my copy right now (it's in storage), but maybe somebody else could look it up. Dwight
I might suggest asking this question on the ATSF Forum here, you might get a little more help... [ 06. August 2002, 23:57: Message edited by: Maxwell Plant ]
