I decided to follow the line past Plaster City on Google Maps. It runs all the way to El Centro and joins the UP. I'm also curious about the 3' railroad that US Gypsum uses to get material from the mine to the plant.
Very interesting! Granted, I skipped forward a bit, up to about the 40 minute mark and watched the rest! Curious to know what the construction was. Also about the long abandoned tunnel, and the 3 passenger cars parked in the middle of the canyon, on the short siding. Or the several bilevel cars towards the end. Is there much business on the line? Didn't look to be used too much, from looks of the track. Also pretty neat to see the F unit still working. Again, cool stuff!
I'm watching a show on The Science Channel Called Mysteries of the Abandoned and there's a piece about the Goat Trestle.
I used to live in St. John's, AZ and there is a coal fired power plant there. If I remember correctly the SD and AE brought in two diesel locomotives as they were doing track maintenance for the Salt River Project power plant tracks. I was supposed to spend the day onboard the locomotive with the crew. It seems the locomotives were green and yellow. Am I right, or dreaming? We were supplying ballast to them. I was unable to spend the day. I have tried to find pictures of their diesels, but not yet.
My memory is of seeing pictures showing colors different from those in the above video. But what were they?
