I work at the Colfax RR Museum in Colfax Wisconsin. Since this looks like the board to post museum info, I shall do so now. Located just off of WI Hwy 40 in the village of Colfax. The Colfax RR Museum is open weekends of May and September (Sat 11-5 Sun 1-5) and June-August Thursdays and Fridays 11-4 as well as Saturdays and Sundays. The museum currently has on display primarily Soo Line equipment (Cabooses 273 and 256, Grain Car 36400, Coach 991, GP-30 703) with some Milwaukee Road (flanger) DSS&A (Caboose), and is also renting track space out to those who are looking to store their cars for a short period of time. The Museum is housed in Colfax's 3rd depot, and also has a hobby shop. Admission for the museum is currently $2 for adults and $1 for children 6-14. Group rates are available. Hope to see you around sometime.
Good news William! And welcome to Trainboard Anytime someone takes the time and money to preserve local railroad history and equipment is well worth it. You can bet if I ever visit your state, I'll be sure to see your museum.
Thanks, Bill. We've been open for about 8 years now (and working on it an additional 2). Look forward to seeing some of y'all.
First, William, welcome to TrainBoard. How far is your museum from Madison, WI? I will be visiting that area in mid-June and would love to pay you a visit, if you are within driving distance.
about 4+ hours west on I-94...but there are also a couple more museums in the area (Ladysmith and Spooner). It would make a worthwhile day trip.
Over four hours one way seems a bit far for a one-day trip and still have time to see everything and take lots of pictures. I will see if we can work in an overnighter. Must spend some time with the relatives in Madison.
