Hey everyone... a row of townhouses are built across the street from me. They are just about finished shingling the roof.

There is all kinds of scrap shingles and the under layer - called tar or felt paper?... I dunno.

Anyways, there must be some use for this stuff, particularly the paper. Any ideas? [IMG]

It's kinda thick for its original purpose. But as a base for yards and roadbeds, maybe!

It could work as a moisture barrier over any wood bench work before adding wet scenery. However latex paint would probably work better. Roofing felt works great for what it is intended but not good for much else. The black comes off and is quite messy.

The HO Scale Fremo group out here uses it as asphalt highways. It looks pretty darned authentic to me. They just rub real dirt into it with their fingers, then roll their model cars over it to create ever so realistic highways. [IMG]

I once used "tarpaper" to make some asphalt roads. They turned out too dark for me and I could never get enough paint on them to make them anything but too black. I was pretty disappointed. But maybe the "real dirt" or chalks, some powdered medium might work. Thanks for the idea.
