Hi everyone, I found my passion in assembling rolling stock kits. So far I have built/building following kits: FR Bunk car FR Coalporter Robert's Centerbeams Mark4 High Cube Fannocreek Woodchips FR Maxi III are on order. What other kits are available? Any ideas? :lightbulb: Thanx!
FR had a........................ FR "Harald Freudenreich" once made a kit of the 2 bay open hoppers. Also made kits of the Gunderson single well car too!! These kits are hard to come by now a days, but, some people still have them, un-assembled!!! Hobo Tim
They will be part of Rob Kluz' CK line, and the first 3 roadnames will be Norfolk Southern, Frisco and CSX.
There are also the following: Robert Ray's 2 Bay Covered Hoppers (wood), Allan Borg's 3 Bay Covered Hoppers, and the Micro Structures 2 and 3 bay open hoppers, which were brass and are very difficult to find (I sold my last couple on Ebay about 6 months ago). ...Pat
Many, many moons ago!!! In 2004 I created what was suppose to be some much needed kits. I learned RTV Mold making, and how to Cast in Resins. I also started into Graphic artwork creation and Etching of Brass. All of these skills were learned with one purpose in mind. That one purpose was to make a Z scale kit of a PS2 3 bay covered hopper. Several test kits were made and some of the members of the Z community recieved a kit to build and review. Unfortunately, the process was long and my experience with mold making was not where it is today. Now, I can't just start up those kits for I will not impose on another Z scalers product run, namely Harald Freudenreich's PS2 3 bay covered hoppers. Where did all of the kit parts go, well, once they left my house in a trade to Robert Ray, I have no idea what became of them. Will I ever make another Z scale kit?? Good Question, but I find it is easier to just build the rollingstock, paint and decal and just offer them that way!!!!! Perhaps that wil change in the future!!!! :teeth: Hobo Tim
Tim, have you already started or thought of starting a thread devoted to your lessons learned from these endeavors? I know I, for one, would be much interested in that knowledge. Like others I have lots of ideas bouncing around in this empty noggin' that I'd like to bring to fruition.
If someone could come up with tooling for a standard rear cupola caboose, it would be very popular as we don't have one, (and most railroads had them), with the exception of modifying a Marklin one.
There were also kits from Portland Railcar and Chicago Railcar years and years ago. Not sure if all of these were kits, but I know ther were some old time passenger cars, bobber caboose and skeleton log car. Did FR ever release his Bi-Level Gallery commuter cars as kits or just ready to run? I'm sure there were others, too, but we should probably ask the question if we are looking for any rolling stock kit ever made in Z or just those currently (or in the recent past) available? Randy
I'm actually looking for the ones that are still available, knowing the past makes only sad.... If somebody can offer me something please feel free to send me a PM.
I meant to mention the M4D kits as well. Nice kits, especially if you want modern rolling stock. A little too pricey for unit trains, but nice kits. Randy
Hi, thanx. I got already both of them, looking forward to see more from these guys, but the bad dollar exchange rate is not accelerating new projects. (...on the other hand it's got for me to buy in the US...)
