    I'm looking for a road switcher thats currently availible .I model the UP from the mid 70's to the present.

    At the moment, there are no road switchers available that were in use during the mid-70s on. Most of the engines in current production are either larger road engines (SD9043MAC) or somewhat older (H16-44). Your best bet would be to watch eBay for an appropriate engine.

    Engines UP would have used at that time include the GP38 and GP38-2, which was brand new at the time; GP7 and GP9, most of which were getting long in tooth; GP20, GP30 and GP35; plus whatever oddball locos they hadn't purged from their roster. All of these have been offered in N scale over the past 10 years by Atlas or Life-Like, and are of relatively good quality.
