I have a reasonable variety of Rivarossi steam outline locomotives and am modifying them for better pickup using Bachmann trucks, the difference in performance is incredible - BUT! - some have worn/broken brushes and I am wondering if anyone has successfully adapted brushes/springs from any other brands - OR- is there a source for the Rivarossi parts? Although the 3 pole motor is not the best, its amazing just how well they operate now on a good controller with the fellicitites getting through from the tender. Sources for the Rivarossi parts seem to have dried up. I remember reading somewhere that brushes for slot car motors can be found that will fit. Have any friends that do slot cars? Another thing - retrofitting a 5-pole armature makes a remarkable difference in performance, too. As you found, good electrical pickup turns these old steamers into respectable runners. With these two upgrades, I have not found it necessary to replace any of my old Rivarossi steamers with anything new.
