Today I started reworking my small end module that got warped in the sun a couple years ago. The track was handlaid, but I forgot expansion joints, and the track warped in the sun, so I tore it off, and decided to rework the module a bit different. I test fit the structures I wanted to use, then cut the foam for a better fit. Draping plaster gauze over shaped foam. Used a small paint roller tray to dip the plaster gauze in, with 1 quart of colored water. Paint brush is to stir the color, and to paint the remaining colored water on after dipping and draping. Dipping plaster gauze in colored water. Used 1" squirt of each color in 1 quart of water. Sepia, Burnt Umber, Raw Umber, and Yellow Ochra are the colors used. Cut plaster gauze to overlap, dip and drape over foam, then rub in with fingers. It hardens in a few minutes, so work quick.
I used the paintbrush and painted on all remaining colored water, then the base layer should never chip white plaster when planting trees, etc. With the base layer finished, I can make rock castings to glue on later, and I can glue down ground cover then plant buildings and trees. Will post updates.
Hello Robert, Before all, I saw on the first picture your set of finished Micro Structures buildings. Even from far they seam wonderfull painted, as mine still lay around as kits. Have you somewhere closeups from the structures, perhaps a link in the forum ? I would really like to see this jewels from near.
I am not sure what I will do for bridges yet, but I think a dual track truss bridge for the straighter portion of track, and a deck girder for the more curved tracks in the back so far. Will have to custom build them. I just test fit the houses in the small neighborhood in the hills. They fit OK, but will need some leveling.
These were built by Bryan W Bolger. Kim Vellore and myself bought each Miller Engineering structure produced, and had Bryan build them for us.
Hello John, Greetings to Germany, He sell under the name "bwbolger" most Micro Structures Kits on Ebay. I own all my kits from him, but I was not knowing that he make such marvellous finished versions.
He does sell them assembled. I checked his e-store for his assembled items. Items like the train depot sells fast. I bought them with the buy now feature.
All I did so far was to mix up some scenic putty and start laying the roads. I sanded the first layer, but need to mix up another batch so the roads smooth out flatter. I also mixed in water colors but the putty did not take the coloring for some reason, like it has it's own bleach inside it. I'll continue on this module next weekend, as I am doing an OEM run of N Scale caboose kits all week.
I figured you had other projects, I was curious to see what method you were gonna use to lay the track. I figured it would be a great compliment to the other thread asked on the board.
Not only is his work exquisite, his prices are incredibly reasonable and is a heckuva nice guy. Michael
