Well, I am now just two weeks from officially retiring from IBM, after 34.5 years. We had a luncheon on Tuesday, and my old boss gave me a couple of interesting train items. This is a 36 page booklet detailing the benefits for Firemen and Enginemen from 1953 And these are from the 1934 introduction of UP's M-10000 "The Streamliner". The postcard is a reproduction, but the "Lucky Piece" is authentic
He and I have been friends for almost 25 years. We reported to the same boss for a while, and then, about 10 years ago, I started reporting to him. He has visited the house for dinner and trains.
I concur with Rocket Jones' comment. Nice that on your retirement they recognize your avocation. Enjoy the retirement. I am.
I have one of those medallions. I believe they were handed out at the Century of Progress Exposition in Chicago. They seem to have been commissioned by ALCOA to advertise aluminum. Amazing how light it is, isn't it? Almost as big as a silver dollar, but about as light as a penny.
Congratulations, Rick. I think you'll be surprised how little time you will have to get things done now!! LOL I've been retired for 25.25 years of your 34.5 years! Getting my money's worth from what I paid in. I hope you have a long, happy and healthy retirement!
Yeah, couldn't believe how light it was. All of those around the table at lunch were engineers, responsible for today's cutting-edge tape technology (yes, tape storage is still a mainstay for long-term backup of data). We all mentioned how light.
All - yes, I am very much looking forward to this next phase. Who knows, I may actually finally finish the ballast job in the JACALAR yard!
