I'm Hornwrecker. Brief explanation of the name: I'm a classical musician (ex Navy nuke CVN-65) and also repair and make brass musical instruments, specifically natural horns (french horns without valves), mostly from junk instruments, so my workshop sometimes looks like a horn wrecking yard at times, as a friend noted. I've been model railroading most of my life, from Lionel, to HO, to O, and to N about 15 years ago. I currently model the PRR, 1960-66, in NE PA; kind of a fictionalized Buttonwood, so it interchanges with D&H, which interchanges with EL. I crammed this into a 4'x13' layout which I'm redoing portions of, to improve operations, and noticing problems after it has sat idle for over a year. I live in the Detroit area, between the ex-GTW and ex-NYC tracks, and not far from the old Detroit Terminal yard. Bob
Bob- Welcome to TrainBoard! Maybe you could share a layout plan or a couple of photos with the folks in our N scale forum?
Welcome Bob. I'm sure you'll find lots to spur your creative side around here. Keep us posted as to how it's going
Welcome aboard, Hornwrecker. I for one would be interested in seeing photos of some of your craft involving repairing of the horns. Great area you are modeling, just one major road missing, mine. Sniff, sniff. :crying:
The layout started out as a 3x4 from a plan in RMC; last week I decided to redo the main to remove the last tight turn remaining: 9 3/4" expanded to 16 with easements. My Photobucket has a few before and afters of the area I'm reworking and a few others {I guess I can't post links yet, and my photos are on my other computer} A horn I built from an old mellophone:
d'oh, I should have downloaded the images to repost here. A kitbash theater from a DPM kit that got out of control, nothing left but the front wall under the fascia, and the left part of my layout before I took a saw to it to redo the mainline:
Welcome aboard Bob. Your profession looks and sounds interesting. I played the French Horn all through school. Glad to have you aboard. Charlie
Welcome aboard, Bob. That is quite a pair of interests you have, and I think you'll find plenty of folks here sharing interest in PRR and D&H. And I have to agree, that horn looks like quite something! PS Go Army, Beat Navy (maybe not anytime soon, but an old treadhead can dream, right?)
Hi Bob, Welcome to the TrainBoard. I like your modeling technique based on the recently sawn "left part". BTW, your Mellophone adaptation looks similar to the condensing coils used in some adult beverage production facilities local to my area, though probably far more sterile. LOL
