I was visiting relatives north of Dallas last weekend. They were having a big festival in downtown Carrollton right next to where we needed to go to see my nephew. No parking anywhere for miles so we parked at the lot at the end of the Green Line and rode the DART train in. Nice ride.
From March 3, 1986, SOU GP-30 2563 and GP-35 2705 await the call of duty at a paper mill in central Alabama, ready to roll an entire unit train of linerboard to the Port of Mobile. Note that the '35 rides on Alco trucks. The second photo shows the notable train on its way, passing the depot at Prattville, AL. Line is former GM&O.
Jim Vollmar, a railroad buddy of mine, took this shot on Wednesday at the Brazos River in Richmond. Yeah, this is the bridge that almost fell in the river a few years ago. You can see the new piers.
High water scoured out beneath two piers, first one was replaced and then a few months later a second flood caused another to sink and need to be replaced. First pier. Then the second pier was not so obvious but they were watching it closely as they suspected something was up. Here is a whole thread where I posted photos of the entire episode. https://www.trainboard.com/highball/index.php?threads/rebuilding-the-brazos-river-bridge.95014/
All Great images of the big boy. I would sure like to see it on a big heavy merchandise train with no helpers, to really show what it could pull. That would be cool.
Sadly, then pier is gone. it served NCR in its heyday had survived to become a bike rail but redevolence of the property and law issues doomed it.
