Here is my Ramsey Tower Yarder that will go on my logging railroad. it's made from wire and styrene. It's about 2-1/4" long x 3-1/4" tall. [ 21. July 2004, 22:19: Message edited by: NP/GNBill ]
A yarder is what they use to pull in logs from the sides of hills to the landing. They are then loaded onto trucks for the mill. They are usually large machines with telescoping spar poles on some. They replaced the spar tree of the past. It's in the paint shop now and will look like this one when finished.
WOW Bill thats a wild bit of gear, would hate to be standing around one if a cable let go!!! Your modeling abilities are outstanding Bill, keep those great looking projects coming.
Oh , yes! I have heard of a spar tree as a logging railroad item. It looks like a dragline affair. I have never seen one on wheels before, though. Thanks! Always learning.
That's a cool model and your layout must be equally cool. Modern logging huh? Are you bu any chance modelling A portion of montana near the Marias pass?
Hey Geeky: My BN layout is set in lower Washington state in the late 60's and 70'. The logging layout is based on Simpson Timber Company's logging railroad up in Shelton, Washington. It is still operating. I do love the Marias pass line. When I was in High School I had a small layout based on Essex, Montana. Roughly based I might add
