The Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania was the first major museum specifically credited to document, preserve and interpret the rich heritage of railroading. The wide ranging, compelling and important story of our nation’s railroading – and railroading men and women –is told through the Museum’s historic collection of 100 locomotives and railroad cars, Immersive education center, exhibits, vast library and archives, equipment restoration program and special events.

It is wonderful to see all of these items safely preserved. One thing I always wonder is how many are cosmetic, and how many could actually operate again?

Operate again? Most of the electrics had their transformers scrapped during PCB remediation, except the AEM-7. None of the steamers will ever run again. Possibly 2 or 3 of the diesels could be made operable if enough money was thrown at them.
