I have a question! I'm looking into making a layout based in the 1920's & early 1930's era. The problem is that locomotives and rolling stock that are in the stores do not say what time period that they were used in.
Is there a way I can find this out the easy way with out having to do my own research?

    hendrickms,
You done took a big step in B&O model railroading! The rolling stock are quite fun to research in finding the era your looking for. As for loco's its pretty in general to determine. The older (smaller) loco's normally are the older ones but getting into the 1930's is where alot of them began to grow into much larger ones and gave way to an even more larger industrial revolution with much advanced steamers and the beginning of the diesel era.

Back to the rolling stock era type. You may have fun finding the correct prototype cars, and even to custom paint them isn't easy! I haven't found any decals to match the B&O's early 1900's paint and lettering. I'm still doing a bunch of searching for information to go along with my older era stuff. Being that I'm modeling a broad range in years to get the feeling of having the Mallet, and their heirs to the Articulateds... Being thats my thing! I'm fond of the B&O Mallets, and Articulateds... I've choose to model a large time spand for this reason....

Anyway, I know this wasn't you wanted to hear about your searches in time span and rolling stock, but The B&O is one of the hardest railroads to get information on in the early years... If I find anything in my searches and all I'll be sure to post them here for everyone to use if needed...

Also, WELCOME ABOARD! Here at Trainboard we're glad to see new mebers and specially to the B&O forum! Again, hope you find some real usefull information all through the site! We've got quiete the family of members here and a great atmosphere for the modeler or even the railfan! I'm sure if I can't help, I know theirs others who can and will!

    7600EM_1,
    Thanks for annwering my post.
If you do find out any info on rolling stock please post it. I thinks its so strange that the B&O ( The oldest R.R. in the US) is the hardest to find in models.
    Oh well!

I know! Its crazy! I love the B&O but hate the fact of not having the products on the market to buy! It sure stinks and the sad part is you can get the older cars, and do the research and all but the painting to the B&O prototype is the hardest. Theirs noone that I know of off the top of my head that makes the decals needed to make a specific car!

Speaking of the B&O, or Baltimore And Ohio, I'd rather refer to it as "Best And Oldest" :D

If I find anything...... I'll be sure to post it for everyone as I'm always looking for more on my favorite "family" road... I had alot of relatives to work on the B&O mostly Engineers, and some track, and yard men but I still got the B&O blood in my veins, thats why I called it "family" road.... :D I sure got it honest! Not only is the B&O in my veins but I've got the B&O's famous "Sand Patch" grade right in my back yard! :D

Most of my family is from Baltimore, so I guess it rubbed off on me a little [IMG]

My grandmother used to live on Hamburg St in what folks used to call (an maybe still do) "Pigtown." Whenever I visited her, we would sometimes walk to the tracks nearby, or even down to Mt. Clare to the B&O RR Museum. Some of my fondest memories were of visiting that fine "cathedral!"

    Jerry,
I too have family from Baltimore! The Dundalk area! :D I lived in that area for the first 4 years of my life... Then moved to Meyersdale PA where my moms family originated from... And has been here ever since! :D Living next to the B&O tracks on the lower side of my house and on the upper side of my house sets the ole Western Maryland tracks! So I lived between the 2 railroads! :D Front door facing the Western Maryland Meyersdale station, and the B&O almost in my back yard!

Man! Are you living a railfan's dream or what?! :D Right now, I live in New Market, MD which isn't too far from the B&O Old Main Line. On the way home from work, I can usually see what I think is a local making it's way west through Mt. Airy (note to self: buy a scanner!)

My father grew up in Dundalk, lived on Eastship, worked at the steel mills, and rode the trolley just about everywhere! We always try to make it back for the 4th of July Parade and Heritage Festival each year. That's where we'll probably be again this Thurs! :D

    Jerry,
Yep sure is a railfans dream! But sadly the old Western Maryland is gone, the tracks tore up and is now "Rails To Trails" for biking... And the old Western Maryland station is home of the Meyersdale Historical Society... And thats where me and 6206_S1a (Mike K) does the train shows together...

But the only thing is that CSX is in the same place the B&O was so and going strong. I bet money theirs 20 trains through here a day!
