Hey now, diesels are just more descreet. They keep their big rods and pistons under the hood. Their impressive bore and stroke something to be discovered.
Maybe we could get a government grant to study this? Of course we would have to buy lots of locomotives. Oh, and find willing women to voice an opinion on them.
Goverment grant...hmmmmmm...I'm liking it !! Or...we could get the biggest baddest steamer and the biggest baddest diesel....put em tail to tail...with 30 feet of the biggest baddest ship anchor chain known...and let em do a tug of war...hmmmm. I'll hold all bets....You can trust me...:tb-wink:....:tb-cool:
You know that such studies take a looooooong time. Years in fact. It would be tough work, as to get a really good cross section, we'd need to be chasing trains all over the world. Interviewing many, many.... Making a career of it all.
I didn't think of that, would need to take this international! We will have to budget extra for travel expenses.
Gentlemen, we don't need no stinkin' gummint study, our question has been answered in a very short sentence, and quite descriptively, I might add....:tb-biggrin:
Getting back to the original question, I have experienced the situation of feeling less streed having thrown a pertly-assembled kit. I've still not found the driver's head from one tram kit that I lauched! - but it does make the modeller feel better. Until, of course, he or she has spent a couple of hours grovelling about the floor trying to gatgher up all the scattered bit! I seem to recall the roof wouldn't fit. Regards, Pete Davies
Since I have found the frustration level with any piece of equipment has a tendency to be equal to it's cost. I can't find myself ever toss it at the wall. The steam vs. diesel survey needs more than one direct response. Guys, you telling us what your wife/girlfriend/sister/mother said, is hearsay and cannot be used as results. A proper nonpartisan scientific study must be made.
Nice. All this talk of steam as relating to masculinity has me questioning my advance purchase of the next Athearn Big Boy. I have never thought that I have overcompensation issues....now I'm not so sure.
Guys, I think I've solved it.....final assembly of all steam locomotives occurred in what ALCO, Baldwin, and Lima all called the Erection Shop.
I pointed that out in a topic back during March. There seemed to be a good amount of doubt. Many railroads also had their own. But I digress...
