I am looking for some modern day industries to model on my N scale St. Lucas Northern. Does anyone have or know the location of some modern day industry photos? But open to all other stuff. It would be nice if the industries can serve a good number of cars. Thanks. SD40 [ 12 January 2002: Message edited by: sd40 ]
Goodyear has a tire factory here in Topeka KS that makes heavy construction equipment tires (they make the largest tires in the world here). They have a fairly good sized yard. They receive carbon black cars and coke. They ship out the tires several ways, in 86' autoparts box cars, completely exposed lying on flat cars, and standing up in open top containers on stack trains. The really big ones are hauled out on low boy tractor trailers.
The best I can do is the following site http://hotels-shopper.com/US_KS/TOP.photomap.html This has aerial photos of Topeka. It opens at W side of Topeka (I-70 & I-470) Move NE (up and right) from where the photo opens until you find US highway 24 (runs E-W) and NW Vail Ave (runs N-S) The word "ramp" is right beside the plant. Plant is on north side of 24. Zoom in and you can see the building detail, all the tracks including cars etc.
thanks for the help Larry. I'd apreciate it if i could get some more industry ideas from anyone who knows and or has photos of one. I want to get a good list so i can get a well set up N scale layout. Thanks for reading, SD40 [ 13 January 2002: Message edited by: sd40 ]
