Well, I have managed to gain some progress on my layout rebuild.

I decided to try to do things the smart way: Put up the backdrop and paint it first, then work on the rest of the layout.

Here's a couple pictures of the progress: [IMG]
This shows the first piece of masonite installed against the built in shelf.

Here's the second sheet installed and spackled.

Next step is to attach the side sheets and then to paint it with a sky blue color.

Sorry about the quality of the pics. It's a cheap digital camera, no flash and flourscent lites.

One thing that I've always had a little trouble with- It's the seam where two pieces of backdrop, namely masonite, come together. Am curious- What have you done with yours to get it smooth? And keep the spackle from cracking?

    :D

Right now, all I've done is spackle the crack. I smoothed it out with my fingers. However, after putting up the side pieces (no pictures available) I am considering using pieces of wallpaper glued over the seam and the corners, not sure yet if that would be better.

If you can get in behind, glue about a 12 inch wide masonite to cover both sides of the seperate masonite. Extend this piece from top to bottom. I have heard this helps and is what I have done. Of course, it helps if you do it before you put it up....lol.

Hey Guys, I use latex wood putty on my seams. It's a little harder to sand smooth but it has never cracked!!

I've got all the masonite up and began some experiments on it. I'm thinking about hiding the seam as well as the corners with pieces of wallpaper. I tried it and it looks really promising. There is a small seam where the wallpaper ends but not too bad.

On the negative side, the gallon of paint I bought to paint the sky with is WAY too light. In fact, it's about three shades too white. I will take it back to Menard's and have them darken it.

Didn't bother to take pictures tonight, since it wasn't a good result.

    More progress to report.

I got the paint and have gotten a coat on the masonite. It looks pretty good. Still haven't decided on how to address the seams. Leaning towards trying the wallpaper route.

Here's a couple pictures. Sorry about the quality, it's a cheap camera.
