    How do you set up a programming track? I have a set 100 from lenz
    and I followed the instructions .I hooked up two wires to a piece of track that is not even part of the layout. When I tried to program a address it gave me an error 2 code saying it could not find a decoder. Is there something else I am to do?

    Alan:

    You have to set up the programming track with two wires to the PQ terminals of the Lenz 100 system. They are the programming terminals on the Lenz 100 command station.

    You must also go into the programming mode on the Lenz100 system.

    Bob,

    I did as you suggested, I used two feeder wires to pq at the back. Do you need to add to power wires to the programming track. This I did not do.

    Alan:

    You just need wiring from the programming track to terminals PQ of the command station.

    If you are getting an error 02 message, it means that the system cannot read the decoder. I have seen this issue with my set 100, especially with dz123 decoders. Use a #16 or #18 wire from the base to the track and keep it as short as possible. Try sliding the loco along the track to make sure it is getting good contact and try pressing down slightly on the top of the loco when programing. This has worked for me with some of the stubborn decoders. this is especially true if you have problems with pick up, the loco could work fine on the main, but faulter on the programing track. What type of decoder and loco are you trying to program?
    Hope this helps..

    I am trying to program SD7 from 003 to 0556 . I put it on the program track. Then call up the engine number 0003, Hit F8 to get the prog,then - to get dir,enterto get adr then enter 0556, when i hit enter a little l shows up under the number then error 2 shows up.

    Here is the sequence:

    F 8 puts you in the program mode;

    Then (Enter) (-) gives you DIR;

    Then (Enter) gives you ADR;

    Then (Enter) gives you A:

    (Enter) 556 and your loco is programmed.

    You have to go past ADR. Hit enter again and you have

    A:

    Plug in the loco # 556 and then hit (Enter) amd your loco is programmed.

    There is nothing wrong with using 22 gauge wire. I use 22 gauge wire all the time.

    You don't need 16-18 gauge wire in N scale for programming.

    You didn't go far enough into the programming program.

    You can't program a loco address in ADR.

    You have to get to A: which is next in the programming menu.

    Bob I was just at the layout. I unplugged th connector, took the wires out , cut the length I had in half stripped some more plastic off,made sure the screws were fully open,inserted the wire, rescrewed them in tight, plugged the connector back in. Went though the steps again and this time it worked. Now I have too learn what the best settings are . Thank you for all your help guys.
