Howdy all!!!!! The probelm I have is,,,,,,, Decoder can not take a address.

I can control the lights is factory addy of 03, reverse light works just fine........ but when direction is changed to forward , both lights flash fast.

I have had other SD-9's and digitrax decoders and not had this problem. This is really getting on my nerves. I spent countless hours trying to figure this out.

Command station is a EASY DCC from CVP products. Decoder as I said is a Digitrax. Never had this problem before.

I put the loco on the program track,,,, do Macro 97 and says " cannot read the decoder address" I put other locos on the program track, and it has no problem reading thier address.

    I am lost.

Maybe the motor contacts are not contacting the pads on the decoder or one or both of them are shorted to the frame.? I would check those first.

    2 ideas.....

Dirty wheels, apply 71% alcohol with a small paint brush.

    or

    Decoder problem, reset ( set cv8 = 8 ), then program.

2 more ideas- try cleaning both the contact pads and the ends of the contacts that touch the pads. Also use a pair of tweezers to flex the ends of the motor contacts a little more upward so they apply more pressure to the contact pads.

The ultimate fix for these is to wire them in to eliminate the contact problems forever.

    Good luck!

I have tried all that, I am ready to give up. I probally just need to send it it, or maybe a professional to install it.

I never had a problem installing a drop in, I have even hard wired decoders. This has my bumfuzzled.

    Wyatt:

Just hardwire the decoder from the motor pads of the loco to the underside of the decoder.

This happens quite frequently with DN 163A0 decoders and Atlas loco's.

Stay cool and run steam....

Give Digitrax a call. Their slogan is "Don't suffer alone!". It's possible that your decoder could be bad.

Unfortunately, a lot of "PnP" decoders work better (only) if actually hardwired...

    Wyatt,
Reading this thread, it is not clear to me that the engine will move. Is the problem with the lights and taking an address only, or does the loco not actually move either?

That happens to me a lot with Digitrax decoders, and in almost every case I just lookup the CV to reset the decoder to factory settings, and program that CV on the programming track, then the decoder operates normal again, taking the programming correctly.

Well update as of 30 sept..... I have got it to take the address I need,, now the motor will not do revolutions. I do not understand.

Piece of junk,,,,,,,,, anyone want to by a decoder??

Have you tried a different decoder in that loco? If you put the lightboard back in, does it run? I have two SD-9s with that decoder, and they work.

The only problem I've had is the contact pad issue, mentioned earlier in this thread. Once I fiddled with those a bit, I was in business.
