I recently aquired 2 of the Athearn DCC Ready SD50's in D&RGW scheme and was hopin' fer a pair that would run together.
The 1st one with the decoder installed worked perfect.
The 2nd one has me stumped...It sits there on the main track with front and rear lights blinking and won't move...also if I put it back on the programing track it sometimes reads Loco #003 agian...then I redo it and it shows #5512 for a check or 2 then its back to #003.
I have swapped the decoders around and with 3 different Lenz JST Gold's all do the same thing...also all 3 run in other Loco's fine.
    Any Idea's whats wrong???

Sounds like a short on the motor side. Be sure both sides of the motor are isolated from the frame and the motor itself is not shorted somehow.

I don't know if its possible to remove the motor but you might try to do that. That should narrow your focus down to either the frame wiring or the motor as being the problem. Then go from there to find the short.

It's probably a short. I pulled the good one apart and the wiring is the same. Also this bad one runs with the plug in the DCC ready spot and using Loco #0000 but as soon as I put in a decoder it shorts the Lenz unit out when I put it on the main.
I wonder how the short is gone with the DCC decoder out and the plug in????
However the taking apart of the motor is a bit beyond my skill levels at this time....I'll just have to send it to Athearn n hope they'll fix it...
    Thank's for the help.
