    Hi folks.

My C&O K3A is almost complete; just waiting on some handrail stanchions and figuring out the headlight yet, and it's all done. However, I am debating what to do next! A Western Maryland 2-8-0 is in the works, but I'd also love to make a NYC Mohawk. I am from Ohio after all; having some NYC models is a requirement!

The only N scale Mohawk model is a long out of production and often VERY expensive brass L4 by Key (one is on ebay for 900 dollars atm... about 6 times what I am willing to pay for a loco) and I'd like to do an L2 anyways.

Anyone know if anyone has done one of these? I guess the Bachmann heavy mountain is a good starting point, but it's also really hard to find these days, and that BLI Pennsy M1 is too expensive for me to hack to bits.

Brainstorming at this point. What do y'all think?

Key's Mohawk was a jewel. I wonder why brass was a profitable product back in the 1980s, but isn't so today? Perhaps labor has become too expensive, but there's always a sector of the market that has the resources to buy the best.

Key does make delightful brass! Much better than some of the old Samhongsa / WSM Baltimore and Ohio stuff I had 15 or so years ago. I just cannot afford the price of the one on eBay just now, and as mentioned, I'd rather have an L2. Perhaps someone will make one in plastic soon. There is not much n scale NYC steam.

Nice job on that H-10a. I'm also in for an L-2c - my favorite Mohawk - easily mistaken for a Hudson at first glance. It has the classic NYC lines.
    Another native Ohioan.

Ohio modelers unite! We demand L2 Mohawks and H7 Mikes (and a nice Hudson). Kato, Bachmann, you guys listening?

An L2c produced by Kato would be a dream come true. I'd be in for 4 of them, anyways.

I would agree that the Bman Mountain would be a good starting point for the wheel arrangement and they had both the light Mountain and the heavy version to choose from. Some stryrene shapes to modify the existing boiler to a correct version. I would think that two of the Bman's long tenders could by kit bashed with some styrene additions to get that big tender.

Bashing two of the long Bachmann tenders might work, actually! I might have a go, if i can find one for a reasonable price. The light mountain would also work, but they are pretty anemic pullers from what I have heard. I need to get a resistance soldering station so I can properly start building things from brass. Alas, also quite expensive!

They pull real well if you shim the TT driver down with a sliver of Scotch tape .
